Position Objective:
Welcome and assist guests entering the zoo with ticket purchases and associated admissions requirements.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate admissions process for arriving guests in accordance with WCS established policies and procedures.
  • Actively promote and inform guests about Admissions and Membership options.
  • Aid, help and inform the public regarding the zoological park, its animals, exhibits, guest amenities, and park policies.
  • Adhere to all established policies and procedures for cash handling (e.g. counting banks at the start and reconciling at the end of shifts) and credit card processing.
  • Adhere to all safety/security procedures in areas where cash is maintained/handled (e.g. keep admissions booths locked/secure at all times, use of drops/drop safes, keeping cash out of sight).
  • Provide consistently excellent customer service to zoo guests. Create a safe and welcoming environment for all zoo guests.
  • Communicate and enforce the Society's visitor rules and regulations and those of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.
  • Assist with orientation and training of seasonal employees.
  • Prepare reports as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of admissions building/booths and admission gate area.
  • Actively support, advance, and uphold the Society's policies regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Perform related tasks and duties as required.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and have an understanding of guest service, and sales.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events as the schedule demands.
  • Ability to learn point of sale software. Experience with Gateway Ticketing Systems software is preferred.
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to represent WCS professionally and to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with others.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires work in both indoor and outdoor environments at zoo entrances in all weather conditions. Tasks require manual dexterity for various tasks (e.g. computer keyboard, cash register, credit card machine) and repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and fingers (e.g. manipulating paper currency and coins). Most tasks require standing or sitting for the duration of a scheduled shift. Some tasks require bending, reaching, and lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds without assistance.
