POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Incumbents in this class perform SecurityOfficer-non-sworn (security guard licensing required)related functions at the Community College, involving the responsibility for maintaining order, working with partner agencies enforcing the Laws of the State of New York, for the security of College property (any of the 5 campus sites), and for the safety of students, visitors and staff. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Fire and Public Safety, with considerable latitude allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Good knowledge of the practices and procedures required to insure maintenance of order and security of buildings, grounds and equipment; good knowledge of safety precautions necessary to eliminate existing and potential security, safety and fire hazards; working knowledge of the Penal Law, Criminal Procedure Law and Vehicle and Traffic Laws of the State of New York; working knowledge of law enforcement statutes pertaining to a variety of offenses and working knowledge of investigative techniques; good knowledge of standard police, fire and emergency communication codes; ability to communicate effectively with others; use technology specifically email and database systems; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions; ability to prepare clear, and concise reports; good judgment; tact; courtesy; resourcefulness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*Provisional Appointment – This position requires an appointment from a certified eligible list and currently there is noestablished list. For you to become a permanent employee, you must pass the examination and be reachable (Rule of Three) on the certified eligible list that results from the civil service examination for this position.
