Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Health seeks a Vaccine Programs Specialist to support Immunization Operations and the VFC/IQIP programs. You will analyze provider data, coordinate enrollment, and ensure compliance with immunization policies.

You will collaborate with regional offices, assist with storage and incident management, and contribute to continuous improvement while supporting trainings and stakeholder communications.

Qualifications

  • State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
  • Higher education recognition by CHEA-accredited institutions may be considered as equivalent.
  • Experience in public health, vaccines for children (VFC) program, and program coordination preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, review, and monitor provider enrollment, site visits, re-certification, disenrollment, vaccine orders, and access to CDC/agency software.
  • Analyze provider enrollment and vaccine data using Excel; pull coverage reports; coordinate with GIS for public provider information updates.
  • Provide consultation on storage/handling and incident management; track incidents via phone or email.
  • Participate in IIS testing; serve as SME for VFC and IIS functionalities; provide SIMON technical assistance to VFC providers.
  • Attend trainings, workshops, and meetings with internal and external partners; provide coverage for Vaccine Provider Operations team members.

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator II Vaccines for Children (VFC)/ Immunization Quality Improvement for Providers (IQIP) Coordinator, performs activities related to provider services and data analysis that align with requirements for both federal/state funded vaccine programs to ensure immunization providers are in compliance with immunization policies, procedures and laws. Evaluates current data via Statewide Immunization Online Network (SIMON)/ Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supported applications to resolve gaps in provider coverage and maintain network of immunization providers. Collaborates with regional/central office staff to assure effectiveness and efficiency in provision of services. Participates as a member of the Immunization Operations Section.

Immunization Operations
  • Coordinates, processes, reviews, and monitors activities associated with program compliance site visits, provider enrollment, provider re-certification, disenrollment, vaccine orders, and access/utilization of Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)supported and/or agency software applications.
  • Analyzes provider enrollment and vaccine administration data using Microsoft platform programs including Excel. Pulls coverage assessment reports for providers. Communicates with DPH's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team to ensure public-facing provider information is up-to-date.
  • Provides consultation to providers enrolled in publicly-funded vaccine programs concerning storage and handling incident management. Assists with the receipt and tracking of storage and handling incidents via phone, emails, or other method.
  • Participates in Immunization Information System (IIS) testing; serves as a technical expert on Vaccines for Children (VFC) and vaccine management IIS functionalities. Providers Statewide Immunization Online Network (SIMON) technical assistance and support to participating VFC providers.
  • Attends/participates in scheduled trainings, workshops, in-services, and meetings with internal and external partners and programs.
  • Provides coverage for and support to Vaccine Provider Operations team members as requested.
VFC and IQIP Program Monitoring

Serves as the Vaccine Provider Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all VFC and Immunization Quality Improvement for Providers (IQIP) software applications. Assists in provider site visit data analysis to track performance and progress toward goals.

Vaccine Provider Support and Education

Provides technical assistance to vaccine providers at the request of Regional Immunization Compliance teams. Performs ongoing education with VFC providers according to current state and federal guidance.

  • Incorporate continuous improvement practices into daily work by identifying inefficiencies, suggesting process enhancements, and ensuring accuracy in tasks that contribute to overall program success. Prepare timely and accurate reports that support decision-making, ensuring that data sources are validated and that reporting processes are consistent and transparent. Collaborate across teams to identify recurring challenges and recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, compliance, and service delivery.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned related to the position, including required travel if requested, and responds as directed during emergencies which may occur outside normal work hours, and travel if requested.
Minimum And Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant program experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Public Health, the Vaccines for Children Program, and/or Program Coordination preferred.
