Job summary

AeroSpec Inc. in Chandler, AZ seeks a seasoned Prototype Machinist/Machine Builder to join a precision prototype and short-run shop. Plan, fabricate, assemble, and fine-tune components and tooling for advanced production and test equipment.

Requires 8+ years with manual mills, lathes, grinders, and GD&T, plus solid blueprint reading and problem-solving. CAD/CAM knowledge (AutoCAD/SolidWorks/Mastercam) is a plus; you’ll collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years’ experience as a prototype machinist, manual machinist, toolmaker, or machine builder.
• Able to read blueprints and interpret tolerances and GD&T.
• Capable of in-process part inspections with manual tools.
• Experience building functional machines, fixtures, and tooling is a strong plus.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Mastercam is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Join AeroSpec’s established prototype and short-run machine shop team.
• Plan, fabricate, assemble, and fine-tune components, fixtures, tooling, and machine mechanisms.
• Support highly automated production and test equipment builds.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to solve machining and tooling challenges.
• Work in a shop with manual and CNC machining, welding, and precision sheet metal.
• Work full‑time, first shift, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., with overtime opportunities.

• Work in a shop with extensive capability in manual machining, CNC machining, welding, and precision sheet metal
• Plan, fabricate, assemble, and fine‑tune components, fixtures, tooling, and machine mechanisms
• Support highly automated production and test equipment builds
• Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to solve machining, tooling, and design‑for‑manufacturing challenges

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years’ experience as a prototype machinist, manual machinist, toolmaker, or machine builder
• Highly skilled with manual machine tools, including manual mills, engine and toolroom lathes, surface grinders, and related equipment
• Proficient reading blueprints and interpreting specifications, tolerances, and GD&T
• Able to perform in‑process part inspections using manual measurement tools and equipment
• Capable of solving challenging machining and tooling problems
• Experience building functional machines, mechanisms, fixtures, and tooling strongly preferred
• Knowledge of programming and operating CNC toolroom mills a plus
• Background in sheet metal fabrication a plus
• Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Mastercam a plus
