Job summary

SureFire, LLC is seeking a Prototype Machinist I to support engineering and product development by fabricating precision prototype parts from engineering drawings. You will operate manual and CNC mills, lathes, and grinders, read blueprints, set up tooling, and verify dimensions to tight tolerances.

You will collaborate with engineers to refine prototypes, document processes, and uphold safety and lean manufacturing standards in a fast-paced, on-site shop environment in Fountain Valley, CA.

Qualifications

• Experience operating CNC machines and programming knowledge.
• Basic understanding of materials and their machining properties.
• Prior experience working in a prototype or product development environment is a plus.
• Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in a machine shop setting.
• Experience in an ISO‑certified company preferred
• Knowledge of Mastercam and SolidWorks a plus

Responsibilities

• Operate manual and CNC machine tools such as mills, lathes, and grinders to fabricate prototype parts.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements.
• Set up machines, select appropriate tooling, and adjust machine controls to achieve precise dimensions and finishes.
• Perform quality inspections on machined parts using measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to discuss prototype requirements, provide feedback, and suggest improvements.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and company policies.
• Document machining processes, times, and materials used to support continuous improvement and traceability.
• Maintain a positive and respectful attitude; cooperate with co-workers, management, internal and external customers, etc.
• Execute daily process improvement using lean manufacturing methodologies.
• Maintain work area by the use of 6S principles
• Work safely at all times and report any unsafe conditions or injuries to your supervisor or manager immediately
• Other duties, as assigned.
