Job summary

The ARMY & AIRFORCE EXCHANGE SERVICE (AAFES) is seeking a Chaplain to provide pastoral care and spiritual resilience to our Airmen around the globe. This role includes managing spiritual centers, conducting worship services, and advising leadership on ethical matters. Ideal candidates will hold relevant degrees, possess ministry leadership experience, and be US citizens.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of religious ministry leadership required.
  • U.S. citizenship and Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a DoD-recognized endorser required.
  • Must meet medical and physical fitness standards.

Job description

Nothing tests religious beliefs more than many situations our Airmen face throughout the course of their service. Providing pastoral care, ministry, and counseling to those of faith and those of no faith, Air Force chaplains are religious ministry professionals who support the spiritual resilience of our Airmen worldwide. As spiritual leaders, chaplains are relied upon for faith and personal guidance. They also advocate for our Airmen and consult with leadership on moral, ethical, and quality-of-life issues.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and supporting spiritual centers on military installations worldwide
  • Conducting worship services, liturgies, and rites
  • Advising leadership on spiritual, religious, ethical, moral, morale, and quality-of-life issues
  • Supervising and managing chapel personnel, operations, and religious programs

Qualifications, Education, and Training

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 120 semester hours; Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree with no less than 72 hours from an accredited institution
  • Pastoral Ministry Experience: At least two years of religious ministry leadership
  • Denominations: Christian Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox Christian, Roman Catholic, and other faith groups
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Receive an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a DoD-recognized endorser
  • Meet medical and physical fitness standards
  • No convictions by courts-martial or civilian courts (except minor traffic violations)
  • No disciplinary action for unprofessional or inappropriate relationships, financial irresponsibility, domestic violence, or child abuse
  • Commissioned as an officer; rank based on education and experience
