- Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment, powerline carrier equipment, digital fault recorders, RTUs, and communication processors
- Functionally test protection and control circuitry for transmission lines, HV bus, transformers, circuit breakers, feeders, reactors, and capacitor banks
- Perform RTU and telecom upgrades for clients
- Review, document, and submit test reports for client reporting and regulatory purposes
- Interpret one-line, three-line, wiring, schematic, and communication configuration diagrams and identify discrepancies
- Complete time and expense reports
- Perform P&C procedures, relay testing, test plan building, function testing, end-to-end testing, and protection scheme troubleshooting
- Communicate with clients about daily testing activities, schedules, roadblocks, and material/testing issues
- Test and check out RTU/SCADA points, including analogs, commands, and statuses
- Travel extensively to client work locations and work overtime as needed
Requirements
- Experience with SEL microprocessor relays, including 311C, 311L, 387, 411L, 421, 487B, 487E, 487V, 587, 587Z, and 787
- Experience with RTUs and communication processors from GE, Telvent, SEL, Cooper, and Novatech
- Experience with P&C procedures, relay testing, test plan building, function testing, end-to-end testing, and protection scheme troubleshooting
- Experience with drawings and relay settings
- Ability to test and prove RTU/SCADA points, including analogs, commands, and statuses
- Ability to read, interpret, and identify discrepancies in one-line, three-line, wiring, schematic, and communication configuration diagrams
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations
- Ability to pass a fit-for-duty physical exam when required
- Must pass pre-employment and periodic unannounced drug tests
- Must pass a pre-employment background check with a seven-year history
- Valid driver's license and minimum motor vehicle insurability standards
- Must take and pass 30-hour OSHA training
- Ability to work in a field environment with changing outdoor conditions
- Willingness to work overtime and travel extensively
- Must read, write, and speak English fluently
