Job Summary

Ensure Reliable Power Generation by maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting critical protection and control equipment for Fossil Generation Facilities. Work independently or collaborate with colleagues to:

  • Test electromechanical and microprocessor protective relays.
  • Verify accuracy of instrument transformers, transducers, meters, and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair system protection control equipment and relays using schematics and system knowledge.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation for all projects and field work.

Summary:

  • Flexible work location in Texas (Lake Hubbard/Forney/Lamar)

This critical role plays a vital part in maintaining the smooth operation of Luminant's Fossil Generation Facilities. You'll be responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting protection and control equipment, ensuring the safe and efficient production of electricity. We're looking for a skilled technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain essential equipment: Conduct testing, calibration, and repairs on protective relays, instrument transformers, meters, and associated control circuits.
  • Ensure system integrity: Troubleshoot and address issues with plant protection and control equipment using schematics and your in-depth knowledge.
  • Detailed documentation: Keep meticulous records of all projects, fieldwork, and equipment updates.
  • Diverse technical expertise : Maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, and installs upgrades for all plant protection relaying and associated control circuits, including but not limited to:
  • Generator relaying
  • Main power transformer
  • Unit auxiliary transformer
  • Start-up standby transformer relaying
  • Medium voltage switchgear relaying and transfer schemes
  • Plant/switchyard interface relaying
  • Automatic voltage regulators and associated control schemes
  • Digital fault recorders and remote telemetry units - Plant metering and ancillary equipment (EBOP and CT)
  • Stay up-to-date: Revise and maintain all associated drawings to reflect the latest equipment configurations.
  • Diagnostic skills: Conduct diagnostic tests on various electrical equipment to identify and resolve potential issues.
  • Level of position will be determined by applicable skills/experience.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology (power industry focus preferred) with 4 years of experience OR High School Diploma/GED equivalent with 8 years of relevant experience (Documented P&C training a plus).
  • Willingness to travel, work extended hours, and respond to call-outs.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in variable conditions, including climbing, lifting, and working in extreme temperatures.
