Job summary

Creative Solutions Services, LLC in New York is hiring a Protection & Control Systems Engineer on a contract, hybrid role (3 days onsite). You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop, test, implement, and maintain system standards for protection schemes and relay setting guides.

You will evaluate new hardware and software, support upgrade initiatives, and provide technical support across functions while coordinating with vendors and ensuring compliance with engineering standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in relay protection and/or control systems engineering disciplines, required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with PSS/E CAPE, Aspen or equivalent fault study analysis tools.
  • Experience with various microprocessor relay platforms and software.
  • Ability to write engineering specifications and standards (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop, test, implement, and maintain system standards, including philosophy documents, relay setting guides, templates, drawings, and test procedures.
  • Research industry best practices and emerging technologies to support continuous improvement of established standards.
  • Perform engineering analyses, evaluate new hardware and software solutions, and support the deployment of protection system upgrade initiatives.
  • Support department efforts by implementing new strategies, initiatives, and processes to enhance the design, operation, and reliability of Systems.
  • Provide technical support to other functions, including protection system asset management and remote monitoring and analytics of substation devices.
  • Oversee vendor activities and perform technical reviews to ensure contractor work meets engineering standards and departmental requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to implement relay protection standards, obtain feedback, and manage expectations.

  • Additional Physical Demands
    • Will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Ability to travel throughout the company service territory and work at company locations as needed.
    • Ability to wear the required PPE as needed.
    • Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor conditions, and in all weather conditions.
    • Ability to work in power plants and high voltage substations.
