Job summary

Arup is seeking a Protection & Control Designer to deliver HV and EHV substation projects for utilities, renewables, and data centers. You will develop protection and control packages, prepare single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring, SCADA, and layout details for time- and budget-constrained deliveries.

Collaborate with clients and internal teams, apply IEEE/ANSI standards, and support studies, sizing, and inter-disciplinary coordination in a flexible work environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum associate degree in technology or related field with 4 years of relevant experience.
• 4+ years of design experience for 15kV–345kV utility substations and IEEE/ANSI standards.

Responsibilities

• Design HV and EHV substation projects for utilities, renewables, and data centers.
• Prepare substation P&C design packages: single-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, and cable layouts.
• Support substation studies and calculations: AC auxiliary sizing, battery sizing, voltage drop.
• Provide construction support and coordinate across disciplines.

This position can be worked out of our New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Boston or Chicago offices.

The Opportunity:

• Performthe engineering design, technical strategy, and delivery of HVand EHVsubstationprojectsfor power utilities and for the interconnection of renewables and data centers.

• PreparesubstationP&Cdesign packagesincludingsingle‐line diagrams,protection and control schematics, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications,control houselayout,cableschedules,relay panel front and rear layout,cable traylayoutandbills of materialsto quality,timeand budget requirements.

• Support insubstation studies and calculationsincludingAC auxiliary system sizing, battery sizingandvoltage drop.

• Provide construction support and inter-disciplinary coordination.

Is this role right for you?

• Associate degreein technology or related discipline and4years related experience.

• Advanced understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD and MicroStation

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as needed, to achieve agreed goals and results.

• Excellent communication skills — able to interact with clients, regulatory bodies, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Ability torepresentthe company credibly.

• Ability to learn and effectivelyutilizenew designsoftware programs.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools – MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook

• The ability to prioritize work effectively, manage deadlines and organization skillsrequiredfor our rapidly changing environment.

Hiring Range

The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York is $107,100 to $127,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York will differ.
