Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Transmission Line Designer to join our team in New Albany, OH. The role involves designing overhead and underground transmission lines, selecting structures and conductors, and supporting route planning with GIS and CAD tools.

You will prepare construction drawings, collaborate with environmental and permitting teams, and participate in field data collection to inform design and compliance.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in drafting/CAD and related engineering tech.
• 1–2 years experience in electric utility or related drafting work; overtime and travel requirements.
• Must be able to read drafting symbols and have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Coordinate with facilities, equipment documents and records.
• Interpret vendor prints and incorporate details into designs.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations for design work.
• Proficient use of CAD and MS Office software.
• Coordinate with other internal teams to ensure safe, efficient work.
