Job Description

AECOM has a position opening for a Protection and Controls Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line’s Engineering Center of Excellence in our Grid Modernization programs, projects and pursuits.

Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across market sectors including transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.). We are looking for a talented engineer with a protection and controls background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base.

The successful candidate will have an understanding and experience in electrical engineering design and technology principles. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with an excellent attention to detail.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  1. Acting as the electrical P&C lead and engineer of record for substations, switchyards and other electrical infrastructure projects (both green and brown field)
  2. Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects
  3. Working with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
  4. Performing Power system studies and system protection settings coordination on various projects
  5. Generate basis of design documentation for protection settings and relay configurations
  6. Supporting projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning
  7. Reviewing engineering work performed by peers
  8. Attending client meetings
  9. Occasional travel to client and/or project sites (including data gathering and field walks)
  10. Mentor early career engineers and facilitate internal training sessions, if requested

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university
  2. 6 years of relevant protection and controls experience
  3. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Preferred 10 years experience with a minimum of 2 years as project lead
  2. Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements
  3. Experience with IEC61850
  4. Successful track record working with remote teams
  5. Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
  6. Plant Startup and Commissioning Field Experience
  7. Power systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, Etap).
  8. Relay coordination utilizing ASPEN OneLiner
  9. Experience developing native relay setting files
  10. Distribution automation experience
  11. Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g. Navisworks)

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $145,000.00 - $175,000.00.
