Telex, LLC is seeking an entry-level Protection and Control Technician I to support field teams in inspecting, testing, commissioning, and maintaining substation protection systems. This remote role involves travel to customer sites and supervision by senior staff.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of field experience in relay testing and substation controls, an associated degree or equivalent training, and strong communication skills.

Competenze

• Associate degree in Electrical Power & Controls, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Journeyman Electrician experience or military power systems training acceptable.
• Proficient with basic relay testing and substation controls under supervision.

Mansioni

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, start-up and data-collect on HV/MV systems.
• Assist project lead with functional testing of substation control circuits on relay panels and breakers.
• Support isolation, setpoint, logic and basic scheme testing.
• Assist with end-to-end relay testing using test software to verify protection schemes.
• Assist in installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relays and SCADA systems.
• Develop basic commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures for relays and communication systems.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Protection and Control Technician I (Remote) support field teams in the inspection, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of substation protection and control systems. This role is designed for early-career technicians who are building foundational relay testing and substation controls experience while working under close supervision.

What You'll Do

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low, medium, and high‑voltage electrical systems.
• Assist project lead with functional testing of substation control circuits on relay panels, transformers, and circuit breaker controls.
• Support isolation, setpoint testing, logic testing, and basic scheme testing (reclosing, breaker failure, etc.).
• Assist with end‑end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, RTS, or Test Universe software to verify communication‑assisted protection schemes.
• Assist in installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relays, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems, and associated communication equipment.
• Assist in developing written standard commissioning, testing, and maintenance procedures for relays, DFRs, RTUs, IEDs, and communication systems.
• Generate basic customer reports describing issues found and corrective actions taken or proposed.
• Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with customers, vendors, and service providers.

Preferred Experience

• 1-2 years of field experience in basic relay testing, substation controls, and commissioning support under direct supervision.
• Associate degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), Electrical Engineering Technology, EE degree, military power systems training (Prime Power, Electrical Power Production, Navy Seabees), or Journeyman Electrician experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Ability to distinguish color‑coded wires, fiber optics, and related materials.
• Ability to work safely and follow all electrical safety procedures

Other Requirements

• Pass pre‑employment drug test and background check.
• Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Regular overnight travel required.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights.
