Job summary

Azura Consulting LLC is seeking a Bycatch Analyst to support NEFSC PSD. The role focuses on bycatch estimates for cetaceans, pinnipeds, sea turtles, seabirds, and related data analyses. You will work independently with collaborators to meet project objectives, often under tight timelines.

The position offers remote work within the U.S., full-time hours, and a one-year term with potential extension. Strong data analysis skills (R) and experience with codebases are required.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in fisheries, marine biology, statistics, or related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in fisheries or marine science.
• Ability to plan, organize, and manage projects within schedule and budget.
• Experience with statistical software (R) and existing codebases.
• Ability to present findings to varied audiences.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Eligibility to work in the U.S. and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual bycatch estimates for small cetaceans and pinnipeds using existing code and new data.
• Prepare sea turtle interaction estimates and Center Reference Documents.
• Audit fisheries data to support bycatch estimation.
• Conduct analyses to inform HPTRT and present findings to the Team.
• Prepare annual gillnet observer allocation in coordination with NEFOP.
• Provide bycatch information for State of the Ecosystem reports.
• Support seabird bycatch hotspot analysis and data requests.
