Job Summary

The Prosthodontist is responsible for providing students with training in diagnosis, treatment planning, sequencing, and the actual treatment of assigned patients in the specialty of Periodontal disease. This is a part-time position, up to 20 hours/week.

Characteristic Job Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Advising students in the related subject field;
  • Skills in diagnosis and treatment planning;
  • Providing clinical training in the discipline and treatment planning;
  • Interviewing patients to learn about their medical histories, complaints, and symptoms;
  • Examining patients with X-rays and other equipment for diagnoses;
  • Creating charts of patients' mouths;
  • Taking measurements for prostheses like dentures, crowns, and bridges;
  • Making wax models of prostheses and supervising dental technicians;
  • Sending models to lab companies;
  • Placing prostheses, making adjustments for proper fit;
  • Repairing, rebasing, and relining dentures;
  • Administering anesthesia and prescribing medications;
  • Conducting surgery to repair mouth structures;
  • Using bonding methods to alter teeth shape and close gaps;
  • Treating ailments causing pain in face and jaw;
  • Using veneers and bleaching to improve appearance;
  • Advising patients on oral health care;
  • Consulting with other practitioners;
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies;
  • Providing consultation services as needed;
  • Teaching basic Prosthodontic services to General Dentistry Faculty;
  • Possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Following directions and accepting assignments from management;
  • Being available during scheduled hours;
  • Accepting other duties as assigned;
  • Contributing to quality assurance and developing programs;
  • Maintaining and improving product quality through audits and collaborations;
  • Staying updated on trends and participating in professional development;
  • Enhancing organizational reputation by ownership and exploration of new opportunities;
  • Serving as Course Director of Pre-Clinical Denture Courses as assigned;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Knowledge, skills, and personal characteristics to perform essential functions;
  • Computer experience in dental or related fields;
  • Knowledge of Patient Relations, Scheduling, ADA Coding, HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, and safety protocols;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Training and certification in the Institutional Data System;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish effective working relationships;
  • Flexibility to accept additional duties;
  • Minimum qualifications include a D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an ADA-accredited college, completion of a Prosthodontics residency, 2-4 years of practice experience, and a current dental license from Pennsylvania.
