Job description

Prosthodontist

Specialize in replacing missing teeth and associated oral structures by determining the type of dental prostheses required, having customized dental prostheses manufactured, and fitting them in patients' mouths. Treat temporomandibular disorders and various issues associated with damaged and problematic teeth.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company, State, and federal agencies.
  • Maintain proper, detailed, and accurate dental records.
  • Travel between clinics to work, as needed.
  • Be willing to be on-call, as scheduled, by the Dental Director/Administrative Director (AD).
  • Assist the Clinic Manager/AD in supervising the dental staff and ensuring clinic compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Meet productivity goals set by the Arkansas Children's Hospital organization and assist the AD, and work with dental staff to accomplish that goal.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, staff, and administration.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Dental Director/AD as needed to meet clinic or organization goals.
  • Supervise Dental Assistants with whom he/she works.
  • Understand the organization's commitment to provide high quality patient care and promote a patient-centered environment.
Job Description
  • Examine and diagnose and treat dental conditions to provide optimum care to patients.
  • Consult with the patient/parent/guardian and advise them of dental status and required treatment.
  • Educate patients regarding oral conditions, provide treatment options and explain to the patient/parent/guardian the risks, benefits and alternatives of each option.
  • Examine patients using X-rays and dental instruments to determine the type of dental prostheses required.
  • Consult with patients to discuss their dental concerns and medical histories.
  • Take impressions of patients' jaws and teeth to determine the dimensions of the dental prostheses to be fabricated.
  • Send wax models of dental prostheses to the laboratory for fabrication.
  • Fit newly fabricated dental prostheses in patients' mouths and assess whether adjustments are required.
  • Perform teeth whitening procedures to treat extrinsic tooth discoloration.
  • Use bonding procedures to repair cracks and chips, fill small gaps between the teeth, and alter the size of teeth.
  • Collaborate with dental and healthcare specialists to develop suitable treatment plans for patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) and successful completion of a residency training in prosthodontics approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Certifications: PALS, BLS.
