Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Purchasing Agent (GS-5/6) for Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) within a VA Medical Facility.

The incumbent handles direct medical supply purchasing and inventory support to clinical and administrative services to initiate obligations for prosthetic equipment and durable medical supplies to Veterans. Responsibilities include evaluating requests, coordinating with physicians and staff, processing orders, and ensuring compliance with FAR/VAAR

Qualifications

• Time-In-Grade requirements apply for current federal employees.
• Specialized experience includes medical equipment purchases and prosthetic supplies.
• Substitution of education for experience or combination of education and experience are allowed.
• GS-6 requires one year of specialized experience at GS-5 level in procurement.
• Interpreting prescriptions, maintaining vendor contact, and using procurement databases are described.
• Preferred experience: customer service and procurement knowledge.
• Physical requirements include occasional lifting and site visits.

Responsibilities

• Receive and analyze prosthetic consults and prescriptions for items and services.
• Verify documentation and determine proper procurement for items and services.
• Submit acquisition plans and maintain procurement records in eCMS.
• Coordinate with vendors, staff, and clinicians to fulfill orders.
• Authorize and prepare complex purchase orders for devices and equipment.
• Manage procurement through agency purchase cards for micro purchases.
• Provide SME guidance on requisition policies and vendor requirements.
• Maintain funding, billing, and reconciliation records per regulations.
