Job summary

UNC Health Prosthetics & Orthotics is seeking a Prosthetic Orthotic Assistant to support site operations. You will greet patients, assist with brace fitting, manage inventory, perform technical work, and document progress.

Opportunities exist to advance to a certified fitter or pedorthist as you grow in the role. The position emphasizes hands-on device fabrication, patient care, and collaboration with clinicians to ensure high-quality, safe orthotic and prosthetic services at UNC Health

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree preferred.
• Six months experience in a health care setting required; two years in a clinical environment preferred.
• Certification in related health care discipline preferred; ABC or BOC certified as CPOA strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients to determine functional interventions for movement impairments.
• Design, write specs for, fit braces and appliances per physician prescriptions.
• Maintain and troubleshoot devices to ensure patient safety and proper function.
• Manage inventory and coordinate with Practice Manager for supplies and invoicing.
• Educate staff and physicians on policies for DMEPOS visits and brace fitting.
