Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a Paralegal to support the General and Special Victims Prosecution Section from case intake to closure. You will collaborate with attorneys to manage discovery, prepare defense materials, and assist at trial, ensuring timely and compliant case progression.

The role requires a Paralegal Certificate or an Associate degree in paralegal studies, plus experience in substantive legal work. Travel, variable hours, and comprehensive background checks are included benefits.

Qualifications

  • A Paralegal Certificate or an Associate degree with paralegal studies is required.
  • A high school diploma and experience performing delegated, substantive legal work.
  • Knowledge of litigation stages, motions, discovery, and court procedures.
  • Overnight travel, evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Background checks: drug, credit, delinquent tax, SLED, and grievance checks are required.

Responsibilities

  • Case Intake: receives and routes cases, uploads discovery, prepares defense materials and reciprocates motions.
  • Case Prep: familiarizes with cases, adds discovery, prepares court documents including indictments and motions, conducts legal research.
  • Trial: assists and attends trial with assigned attorneys.
  • Case Closure: closes disposed cases, files documents, and notifies agencies.
  • Serves as Assistant Terminal Agency Coordinator for NCIC for the office.
