Job summary

Cowboy Space Corp. is hiring a Test Engineer to design, build, and operate test systems for propulsion components, engines, and stages. You’ll own fluid, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems from design through commissioning and operation.

Applicants should have 4–8 years of relevant experience, a solid grasp of fluids/thermodynamics, and hands-on ability with P&IDs, control systems, and scripting (Python preferred).>

Qualifications

  • 4-8 years of relevant test experience in propulsion, fluids, energetics, or industrial systems with high consequences
  • First-principles depth in fluids, thermo, and structures to reason about a system on a whiteboard
  • Experience creating P&IDs and building the described system
  • Experience integrating mechanical and electronic systems and troubleshooting them
  • Experience with high-pressure or hazardous environments and proper safety habits
  • Experience writing and operating test procedures
  • Some software capability for data reduction, control sequences, scripting (Python preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design and build fluid, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems for component, engine, and stage-level test
  • Own P&IDs and take fluid system designs from schematic through procurement, fabrication, and checkout
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot systems live, including electrical and software aspects
  • Safely operate high-pressure and cryogenic systems (LOX, LNG)
  • Write and run test procedures as test conductor under pressure
  • Perform hazard analysis, set safety controls, exclusion zones, and abort criteria
  • Instrument tests to answer sensor selection, calibration, DAQ, and sample-rate questions
  • Reduce and present test data and drive anomalies to root cause
  • Own stand project schedules, especially long-lead items
