Job description

PROPULSION TECHNICIAN (FALCON VALVES)

The Propulsion Components team develops the most advanced spacecraft and launch vehicle hardware in the world. Our technicians serve as hardware build and test experts for the flow control devices that drive the critical capabilities of our Falcon rocket - from engine throttling to attitude control. You will build valves, regulators, and actuators for maximum reliability in extreme environments, with temperatures ranging from +900F to -400F and pressures beyond 10,000 PSIG. As a technician, you will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of build quality, ensuring tests are being run correctly, and directly interfacing with build engineers on the floor. Technicians in this role will be expected to understand component functionality, be able to assist in troubleshooting or recognizing potential issues before they occur, and help update work instructions to reduce the possibility of future errors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and test valves, regulators, and actuators
  • Use precision tools to measure and verify parts tolerances
  • Ensure the safety of daily operations by maintaining a high attention to detail
  • Collaborate and cooperate with team members to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly targets
  • Maintain a professional and neat work area
  • Perform work according to procedures, specifications and test instructions
  • Record daily work completion accurately to report to the lead technician

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of experience in hardware assembly, test, maintenance, material handling, and/or installation; OR certificate from an accredited trade skills program in A&P, manufacturing, and/or electronics

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of basic hand tools, calibrated equipment such as torque wrenches, dial calipers, multimeters
  • Experience in automotive, power sports, diesel/ industrial technologies, aerospace or similar industry
  • Experience with basic shop tools such as lathes, hydraulic press, drills, inspection tools
  • Ability to read digital/ analog tooling (e.g. torque wrench, pressure gauges, and calipers)
  • Strong technical aptitude/ ability to problem solve and corroborate ideas to deal with day to day challenges
  • Ability to learn how things work and why they need to perform as intended, and follow safety procedures
  • Basic computer skills, strong written and verbal communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, and/or weekends as needed
  • Must be able to work the following shifts:
    • Monday to Friday: 5:00AM - 3:30PM
    • Monday to Friday: 3:00PM - 1:30AM
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Propulsion Technician/Level 1: $22.00 - $27.00/hour
Propulsion Technician/Level 2: $25.00 - $32.50/hour
Propulsion Technician/Level 3: $30.00 - $38.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
