Propulsion Engineering Manager – Level 2
Location: Promontory, UT. 9/80 schedule, every other Friday off.
Job Overview
Lead a Loaded Motor Design and Analysis team, supervising 12–14 engineers, coordinating with program leadership, and contributing technical work in loaded motor design, structural and ballistic analysis, and production support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Loaded Motor design and analysis team including Engineering Product Owners, design engineers, structural PLI and ballistic analysts.
- Plan, prioritize, and coordinate engineering tasks and schedules with Project Engineers, Program Managers, and stakeholders across multiple programs.
- Perform engineering analysis and/or design tasks in structural or ballistic analysis, and design of loaded motor hardware.
- Identify staffing needs, support hiring, onboarding, and workload balancing across programs.
- Provide day‑to‑day leadership, coaching, feedback, and support employee development plans, training, and competency growth.
- Maintain and evolve certification, design, and analysis standards for loaded motor design; ensure safety, performance, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with Aerothermal Analysis group and other engineering functions to integrate loaded motor solutions.
- Build strong relationships with Project Engineers and Program Managers on assigned programs.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8 years of professional experience; OR Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 6 years of professional experience.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
- Engineering analysis experience, preferably in structural and/or ballistic analysis.
- Design engineering experience with solid rocket motors, preferably with Loaded Motor products.
- Demonstrated experience setting priorities and managing competing demands across multiple programs or projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with engineering drawings, specifications, plans, and reports.
- MRB (Material Review Board) support and closure.
- Analysis experience in structural PLI and/or ballistics.
- Knowledge of materials used in liner, barrier, and propellant systems at NG Propulsion Systems.
- Prior technical, team, or project lead role in a propulsion or high‑consequence environment.
- Loaded Motor product design and production support experience.
- Clear presentation of technical information in written reports and formal presentations.
- Curiosity about emerging developments in Northrop Grumman Space Sector.
Salary and Benefits
Primary level salary range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00. Eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and potentially long‑term incentives. Benefits include health insurance, life & disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off.
