Northrop Grumman Space Sector seeks a Propulsion Engineering Manager – Level 2 to lead an Aerothermal analysis team of 10–12 engineers across Promontory and Bacchus campuses. The role combines people leadership with hands-on technical contribution in solid rocket motor design, analysis, and fabrication.

You will drive staffing, plan work, and coordinate with program leaders while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in propulsion or related engineering fields.
• Experience in thermal and CFD analysis for solid rocket motors is preferred.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate across programs and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Thermal and CFD analysts across multiple sites.

As a Propulsion Engineering Manager – Level 2, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.Propulsion Systems is seeking a frontline engineering manager to lead our Aerothermal analysis team. This manager will supervise a team of thermal and CFD analysts across the Promontory and Bacchus campuses. The position can be located at either location.This role combines people leadership and technical contribution: you will manage a team of approximately 10-12 engineers, coordinate work with program leadership, and personally contribute as a thermal or CFD analyst. The workload is split approximately 80% direct and 20% indirect.This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Lead a focused team consisting of Thermal and CFD analysts supporting all aspects of solid rocket motor design, test and fabrication.Plan and manage work scope: define, prioritize, and coordinate engineering tasks and schedules with Project Engineers, Program Managers, and other stakeholders across multiple programs.Contribute technically by performing engineering analysis and/or design tasks in your area of Aerothermal expertise.Drive team performance and staffing: Identify and address staffing needs for the Aerothermal group, support hiring, onboarding, and workload balancing across programsDevelop people and capabilities: Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and feedbackSupport employee development plans, training, and competency growthOwn technical rigor and standards: Maintain and evolve certification, design, and analysis standards for loaded motor designEnsure work products meet safety, performance, and quality expectationsIntegrate across disciplines: Collaborate closely with the Loaded Motor group and other engineering functions to ensure integrated loaded motor solutionsBuild strong working relationships with Project Engineers and Program Managers on assigned programsOther duties as assignedWhy you? You’re the candidate we’re searching for if you are ready to achieve the impossible alongside like-minded innovators.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree in related engineering discipline with 6 years of professional experience.Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearanceApplicable engineering experience with thermal analysis and/or CFD analysisDesign engineering experience with solid rocket motors, igniters, nozzles, and/or thermal protection systems.Demonstrated experience setting priorities and managing competing demands across multiple programs or projects Preferred Qualifications:Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline.Demonstrated experience with finite element modeling in applicable thermal (e.g. Thermal Desktop) and CFD (e.g. Fluent) software.Ability to write and understand code (preferably Python or MATLAB)Interacting with multidisciplined teams that provide inputs and outputs to thermal and CFD analysisThermal and CFD analysis experience in ablative materials, thermal protection systems, or extreme temperature and flow environmentsExperience quantifying predictive uncertainty and communicating riskPrior experience as a technical lead, team lead, or project lead role in a propulsion or similar high consequence environment.Ability to clearly present technical information in written reports and formal presentationsCurious about all the exciting developments with the Northrop Grumman Space Sector? Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
