About The Role

The Propulsion Engineer II role involves the design, development, and evaluation of propulsion systems, subsystems, and components for space vehicles, including launch vehicles, spacecraft, and related technologies. This position is ideal for individuals with a solid foundation in propulsion engineering and a few years of experience looking to further their career. The role includes working on advanced projects, collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and technicians, and contributing to the development of innovative solutions that drive the company’s success. In this role, you will frequently use and apply technical principles, standards, theories, and concepts to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity. Working under general supervision, you will follow established procedures while contributing to the completion of designs directly associated with program milestones. You will collaborate with other mechanical teams and occasionally communicate outside of Sierra Space to ensure alignment and progress. Your responsibilities will include designing and developing propulsion systems, subsystems, and components for space vehicles, including launch vehicles, spacecraft, and related technologies. You will develop solutions to technical problems, conduct tests and simulations to validate propulsion system performance, and document design processes, test results, and modifications for future reference. Additionally, you will provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for propulsion systems and components, while staying updated with the latest advancements in propulsion engineering and applying new knowledge to ongoing projects. Participating in team meetings, you will contribute to project planning and progress discussions, as well as mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians. Clear communication of technical concepts and information, both verbally and in writing, will be essential to ensure collaboration and project success.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree).
  • Typically, 2+ years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of Propulsion Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently with general guidance from senior engineers.
  • Clear verbal and written communication of technical concepts and information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using engineering design software and tools such as CAD, FEA, or CFD.
  • Strong understanding of propulsion system components and their functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Compensation
  • Pay Range: $82,461.00 - $113,403.75
  • Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
