Job summary

Virgin Voyages is seeking a Props Technician to ensure flawless operation of show properties aboard our ships. You’ll oversee presets, run show tracks, perform daily safety checks, and assist with aerial acts, rigging, and gear installation.

You’ll collaborate with technical staff, cast, and management to keep props and scenery functional, maintain stock, attend rehearsals, and embody the Virgin brand with energy and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years as Props Technician in professional theatre or cruise setting.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Google Apps.
  • Conversational English required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide backstage and front-of-house support for performances.
  • Maintain and repair props, sets, drapes, and related equipment.

The Props Technician is a core team member ensuring the best operation of shows and events as possible. They are responsible for overseeing the execution of all show properties presets, running a show track, and post-show reset. The Props Technician will also be required to assist in the facilitation of aerial acts, including assisting cast members into and out of aerial rigs and harnesses, executing daily safety checks, performing cues during the shows and participating with any show-specific gear installation and removal. The technical skills are important, yes, but having an artist’s eye to make our uniquely Virgin experiences dazzle at sea is vital. This is a complex, multifaceted assignment where creativity, strong technical and artistic skills, and exquisite communication chops are the keys to success.

What You’ll Be Up To:
  • Provides production related backstage and front of house support to all performances
  • Provides production related backstage and front of house cover support to all performances
  • Works closely with all technical staff to ensure that all props, sets, scenery, drapes and other stage related equipment is functional and properly maintained at all times
  • Maintain and repair all show props for Shows, Parties, Happenings and Music as needed
  • Adhere to and support the performance implementation guides
  • Attend rehearsals with cast and other technical staff as required
  • Assists in the maintenance of all stock supplies and materials, including all consumables and assists in the ordering of supplies when needed
  • Liaise between shipboard management, shoreside office, creative teams, and the casts
  • Assist the Entertainment Technical Manager and Production Stage Managers with additional ship-wide operational needs as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
  • General safety duties, as dictated by the Safety Officer onboard

Superpowers Required:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Props Technician in professional non-profit or for-profit theatre. Cruise Ship experience is an asset, but not required
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to juggle several operations at once
  • Strong knowledge of key business tools (MS Office, Google Apps, etc.)
  • Able to work in loud, disruptive spaces
  • Ability to work outside in the sun
  • Must have excellent communication, language and social skills with a genuine interest in entertaining people
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • A self-starter, who can roll up their sleeves and make ship happen with little supervision
  • Great energy and attitude of optimismAbility to move mountains without relying on others to do the heavy lifting
  • Work experience outside of the United States, in cross cultural settings, preferred
  • Conversational English ability is required
  • STCW training required
