Position Reporting

This position reports to: Business Dev Mgr 2

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will prepare proposals for paper machine applications drive solutions, including but not limited to paper machines, board machines, tissue machines, pulp dryers, on/off machines, coaters, Optireels, Sirius reels, center winders, two-drum winders, rereelers, and supercalenders for US paper industry customers. Your responsibilities include making technical consulting recommendations to ensure that bids and orders are technically and commercially accurate. You will perform proposal and cost estimating duties and pursue initiatives to improve group effectiveness and increase customer satisfaction.

This role contributes to the Process Automation Process Industries division in North America.

Main Accountabilities
  • Interpret OEM specifications (e.g., Valmet, Voith, JSI) for optimal sizing of coordinated drives (AC and DC), motors (AC cage induction, PMM, and DC), and supply sections on paper machines and similar applications.
  • Interpret TAPPI surveys and NRL or DCS data-based studies.
  • Interpret in-house generated surveys and reports based on innovative approaches when standard methods are not suitable.
  • Contribute to own surveys and field work over time.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer presence and understanding at all times.
  • Provide understanding of complex paper applications, including effort to prove and document results and ROI.
  • Review and analyze customer specifications based on ANSI/IEEE/NEMA/UL standards and NFPA-70E US local codes.
  • Participate at least 80% of the time in driving system proposal generation; the remaining time may be spent on travel, on-site fact-finding, or proposal review meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience with drive systems, or an associate's degree with 10 years, or a high school diploma with 12 years of related experience.
  • Experience as an applications engineer with various AC and DC drive technologies.
  • Knowledge of paper machine applications, coordinated drive systems, and understanding of drive-related drawings and documents.
  • Must already have work authorization to work for ABB in the US.
