Job summary

Sapphire Recruitment Pty is seeking a Proposal Engineer to join an established equipment manufacturer near the Syracuse, NY area. You will work on custom machinery solutions and prepare technical and commercial proposals, including drawings, specifications, pricing, and delivery estimates.

Ideal candidates have 1–4+ years of engineering experience, a mechanical or mechatronics background, and strong communication skills for direct customer interaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 1-4+ years of engineering experience preferred; recent graduates will be considered.
• General understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, machinery, or industrial equipment.
• Ability to interpret and develop preliminary engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact directly with customers.

Responsibilities

• Review customer inquiries and technical requirements for custom machinery and equipment.
• Develop preliminary mechanical and electrical drawings to illustrate proposed equipment solutions.
• Create engineering concepts and equipment specifications based on customer needs.
• Identify major components, materials, and equipment required for proposed systems.
• Estimate engineering design hours, manufacturing labor, and assembly costs.
• Work with Purchasing and vendors to obtain component pricing and material cost estimates.
• Develop project cost estimates and prepare competitive customer quotations.
• Prepare technical and commercial proposal packages, including preliminary drawings, specifications, pricing, and delivery estimates.
• Communicate directly with customers to clarify requirements, discuss technical solutions, and address questions.
• Collaborate with Sales, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to develop accurate proposals.
• Manage proposal revisions as customer requirements evolve.
• Coordinate internal reviews and approvals to ensure proposals meet customer expectations.
