Job summary

SustainableHR is recruiting a Property Accountant to take ownership of the accounting and financial reporting for a real estate portfolio in the Greater Madison Area, WI. This on-site role oversees the full accounting cycle for multiple properties, coordinating closely with operations and the finance team.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency with ERP systems and real estate software. Competitive salary and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Prepare monthly financial statements for each property and related entities.
• Manage month-end close, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Maintain general ledger activity across multiple properties and entities.
• Provide financial insights to operations and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
• Manage month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers
• Maintain accurate general ledger activity across multiple properties or business entities
• Review property operating results and investigate significant budget-to-actual variances
• Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to property operations and company leadership
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for lenders, investors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
• Monitor property cash balances and coordinate payments and disbursements with the Accounts Payable team
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and financial reporting questions
• Support annual audits by preparing schedules, workpapers, and requested documentation
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting, processes, controls, and overall financial accuracy
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special accounting projects as needed
