We are recruiting for a Property Line of Business Underwriting Director to join our team. This role can be hybrid if near a local office, or work remote from most locations in the U.S.

Position Summary:

The Property Line of Business Underwriting Director will lead strategic direction of assigned lines of business to assist in achieving growth and profit objectives. They will drive the line of business strategy through development and implementation of underwriting strategies based on current trends, industry insight, data analysis, underwriting results, and directives.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the overall strategy for assigned lines of business, including Amerisure’s risk appetite, underwriting guidelines, opportunity identification, underwriting tools, objectives and key results, and book of business management.
  • Develop key analytic insights, leading indicators, and profitability drivers through internal and external research to promote data driven decision making.
  • Analyze and monitor the line of business portfolio, identifying shifts in trends, evaluate performance, and identify areas of opportunity for growth and profitability improvement.
  • Recommend strategy or execution changes based on data-driven insights through monitoring of external factors such as competition, emerging trends, and judicial/regulatory decisions.
  • Identify line of business needs and manage underwriting controls, risk appetite, and tools to support organization growth and profit goals in collaboration with industry practices, product development, and field marketing staff.
  • Determine profitability and acceptability of Amerisure’s risk outside field authority based on corporate guidelines and standards and place facultative reinsurance as needed to protect the financial integrity of the company.
  • Establish pricing program recommendations aligned with the company strategy in collaboration with field marketing, actuarial, financial planning and analysis, and other commercial leaders and business leaders.
  • Manage intra-departmental projects and project teams related to line of business initiatives for process improvements, increased efficiency, or expense reductions.
  • Demonstrate a technical expertise in designated line(s) of business to support technical underwriting training, new product development, form changes, and service to meet the needs of the assigned lines of business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-related experience
  • 10 years commercial underwriting insurance experience with expertise insuring construction or manufacturing exposures
  • Must have underwriting expertise in handling middle market property risks.
  • Expertise in multiple core lines of business preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with cross-functional business teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to function in a fast-paced, highly visible, and changing environment.
  • Ability to think strategically with supporting analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated successful capability to resolve conflict over sensitive or complex issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience influencing and collaborating at the executive level.
