Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and four years of experience with a police agency or equivalent.
• Valid Utah Driver's License.
• Ability to pass a rigorous background check.
• Ability to pass a drug test.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in forensic science, Criminal Justice, Biology, Chemistry, or another related field is preferred.
• Education in evidence management or related fields is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Receive, identify, classify, document, and maintain custody of evidence and property.
• Enter and maintain property and evidence records in RMS with custody transactions and dispositions.
• Maintain chain-of-custody documentation from receipt to final disposition.
• Inspect submissions for packaging, labeling, and compliance with requirements.
• Secure storage areas to prevent theft, loss, or contamination and maintain access controls.
• Coordinate transfers with laboratories, courts, and agencies as needed.
• Process and package evidence including firearms, narcotics, biological samples, and digital devices.
• Coordinate evidence disposal and destruction in accordance with policy and law.
• Maintain documentation for evidence drying cabinets and safety procedures.
• Provide professional service to officers, investigators, prosecutors, courts, and the public.

Education

High school diploma or GED
