Job description

Personal & Small Business (PSB) Insurance Advisor

Department: Property & Casualty
Role Type: Internal-lead advisory, sales, service, and small-account book management
Primary Focus: Personal lines and lower-complexity small business insurance

About Fred Insure

Fredriksen Insurance is a local, family-owned Idaho agency that has helped individuals, families, and employers navigate insurance and employee benefits since 1980. We are known for practical guidance, responsive service, and long-term relationships.

As our agency expands its Property & Casualty capabilities in 2026, this role helps clients access the same trusted, client-centered experience across personal and small business insurance.

Our Core Values

Help First: Lead with education, advice, and genuine assistance. Meet people where they are and leave every client and colleague feeling supported, valued, and better off.

Humbly Confident: Bring strong expertise without ego. Stay approachable, listen well, and continually sharpen knowledge through industry trends and best practices.

Work Happy, Serve Happy: Bring energy, enthusiasm, and positivity to the work. Build meaningful connections and create a service experience people remember.

We Do What We Say: Make thoughtful commitments and follow through. Build trust through reliable communication, accurate work, and consistent action.

Position Summary

The Personal & Small Business (PSB) Insurance Advisor advises, places, services, and grows personal insurance and lower-complexity small business accounts generated through internal referrals, existing agency clients, cross-sell opportunities, and inbound leads.

This role is the Property & Casualty counterpart to the agency's Small Group, Individual, and Medicare service model. It is primarily a consultative, internal-lead role rather than a cold-calling position. Success depends on clear communication, responsiveness, sound coverage guidance, consistent follow-through, and living the agency's core values in every interaction.

The PSB Advisor owns assigned relationships from initial consultation through placement, service, and renewal. As the book grows, dedicated account management support may be added so the Advisor can focus more heavily on relationship management, new business conversion, and retention.

Small Business Scope

This role generally focuses on smaller businesses depending on risk complexity.

  • Appropriate accounts may include main street businesses, BOP-eligible risks, simple general liability accounts, lower-complexity commercial auto, small workers' compensation policies, home-based businesses, and small professional service firms.

  • Higher-hazard, multi-state, contract-heavy, large-schedule, complex workers' compensation, or other complex commercial accounts should be reviewed with the commercial lines team and transitioned when appropriate.

  • The PSB Advisor may write small business and workers' compensation policies directly with support, review, and oversight from P&C Leadership.

Primary Responsibilities
Lead Management & Consultative Sales
  • Respond promptly to assigned referrals, cross-sell opportunities, inbound leads, and existing client needs.

  • Conduct discovery conversations to understand exposures, coverage gaps, risk tolerance, and budget considerations.

  • Develop, explain, and present appropriate coverage options and proposals in clear, client-friendly language.

  • Maintain an organized pipeline and consistent follow-up through placement, transition, or close.

  • Meet or exceed production and conversion goals established by agency leadership.

Personal & Small Business Insurance
  • Quote and place personal insurance, including homeowners, automobile, umbrella, recreational vehicles, rental properties, and related solutions.

  • Quote and place lower-complexity small business insurance, including BOP, general liability, commercial property, commercial auto, workers' compensation, professional liability, cyber liability, and commercial umbrella when appropriate.

  • Collaborate with carrier partners and internal commercial resources to develop competitive solutions and identify risks requiring additional review or transition to the commercial lines team.

Client Service, Retention & Book Management
  • Manage assigned client relationships through placement, routine service, annual review, and renewal until dedicated support is assigned.

  • Process policy changes, endorsements, billing questions, and other service requests accurately and promptly.

  • Review coverage, deductibles, limits, exclusions, and changing exposures; recommend appropriate improvements or additional protection.

  • Build a profitable, well-retained book through responsive service, trusted advice, account rounding, and appropriate referral requests.

Fredriksen Partnership & Client Experience
  • Partner with Fredriksen Health and Property & Casualty colleagues to provide a coordinated, seamless client experience.

  • Keep referring advisors appropriately informed throughout the sales and placement process.

  • Identify opportunities to connect clients with additional Health or Property & Casualty resources while protecting the relationship and honoring the Help First approach.

Agency Operations & Professional Development
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the Agency Management System.

  • Stay current on carrier products, underwriting guidelines, market appetite, industry trends, and best practices.

  • Participate in agency meetings, training, and professional development, and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.

  • Follow through on commitments, communicate early when obstacles arise, and uphold agency standards for accuracy, responsiveness, and integrity.

Compensation Model

This role is expected to begin with a $40,000 base salary plus commission on new business. As the Advisor's book of business matures and can support the base salary, the compensation model may transition to a full commission model that includes both renewal and new business sales compensation.

Qualifications
  • Active Idaho Property & Casualty insurance license, or ability to obtain.

  • Previous insurance, client service, sales, or relationship management experience preferred.

  • Personal and/or small commercial insurance experience preferred.

  • Experience with agency management systems and Microsoft Office preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong consultative judgment and a client-first approach.

  • Responsive, organized, and able to manage multiple active opportunities and service needs.

  • Able to explain insurance options clearly without overcomplicating the conversation.

  • Able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

  • Sound judgment to recognize when a risk requires commercial team involvement.

  • Commitment to continuous learning, reliable follow-through, and the Fredriksen Core Values.
