Job summary

Jefferson County is seeking a Personal Property Appraiser to audit and value business personal property for tax purposes within the Assessor's Office. The role includes field investigations, processing declarations, and handling appeals with public inquiries handled professionally.

The position follows a four-day workweek (Mon-Thu, 10 hours) in-office with potential limited remote work after probation. Candidates need basic appraisals experience or related accounting or business experience.

• Understanding of the appraisal process including fieldwork and data management.
• Ability to interpret and apply statutes, regulations, and appraisal methodologies.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate technical processes to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Field investigating, auditing, and inspecting business personal property.
• Estimate value and assess information filed by taxpayers.
• Process declaration forms and respond to inquiries and complaints.
• Process appeals and abatements; prepare for hearings as needed.
