Job summary

The City of San Diego is seeking Property Agents to handle sensitive real property transactions in the Real Estate and Airports Division of the Economic Development Department. Responsibilities include leasing, management, acquisitions, dispositions, and various asset services.

A strong background in commercial real estate transactions is required, with a valid California driver’s license. The role requires three years of relevant experience, a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, and

Notes:
  • Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
    • 3.5% effective 7/1/27
    • 2% effective 7/1/28
    • 2% effective 1/1/29
  • Eligible benefited employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter).

Note:
  • Additional qualifying professional-level experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis. One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.
EXPERIENCE:

Three years of full-time commercial real estate property transactional experience in at least ONE of the following areas:

  • Appraisal/valuation
  • Acquisitions and dispositions
  • Relocation and right-of-way
  • Property and/or asset management
  • Commercial sales/leasing
  • Commercial real estate brokerage
Notes:
  • Qualifying acquisitions and disposition experience MUST include selling, purchasing or leasing commercial, office, retail, and/or industrial or unimproved property.
  • Qualifying property management experience MUST include at least one of the following areas: Lease negotiations and administration; asset and/or property management of commercial or industrial complexes; or preparation of development lease and sale packages.
  • Consulting or Single-Family Residential (SFR) experience is NOT qualifying.
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.

LICENSE : A valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of hire.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE(S) :
  • Commercial Real Estate project management experience.
  • Experience working with public agencies and municipalities, including permitting departments and planning groups/commissions.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate, Business, Land Use/Urban Planning, or Economics.
  • Experience in a governmental or public agency, which includes experience in the oversight and evaluation of commercial real estate transactions, land use and development policy, and real estate finance and/or economics.
  • Experience in commercial lease negotiations and administration of ground leases.
  • Experience in conducting financial analysis, particularly relating to commercial real estate and preparing reports.
  • Experience with leasing of commercial office space.
