Job summary

Prometheus Energetics seeks a Propellant Chemist / Formulation Engineer to advance energetic material formulations from lab to pilot scales. You will work across engineering, operations, safety, and test teams to translate ballistic and mechanical requirements into safe, robust formulations, including binder systems like HTPB and oxidizers such as AP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in energetic materials formulation, propellant chemistry, or reactive materials manufacturing in aerospace/defense.
• Solid understanding of solid composite propellant ingredients, binder systems (e.g., HTPB), curing chemistry, and energetic material thermodynamics.
• Proficiency with materials characterization and lab instrumentation (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA, rheometers).
• Familiarity with pilot-scale mixing, vacuum casting, and manufacturing floor support.
• U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Formulation design, chemistry, and characterization of solid composite propellants.
• Support pilot-scale transition of lab recipes to production processes.
• Provide safety-focused lab support and documentation.
• Coordinate with EHS, safety teams, and DoD/compliance standards.
