Job summary

Prometheus Energetics is seeking a Propellant Chemist / Formulation Engineer to lead energetic material formulation and characterization. You will work with engineering, operations, safety, and test teams to translate ballistic requirements into safe, robust propellant formulations and to support end-to-end lifecycle from material evaluation to pilot-scale production.

Required are a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 4 years in energetic materials, with hands-on use of FTIR, DSC,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in energetic materials formulation, propellant chemistry, or reactive materials manufacturing in aerospace/defense.
• Solid understanding of solid composite propellant ingredients, binder systems (HTPB), curing chemistry, and energetic material thermodynamics.
• Experience with materials characterization and laboratory instrumentation (FTIR, DSC, TGA, rheometers).
• Familiarity with pilot-scale mixing, vacuum casting, and manufacturing floor support.
• U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in formulation design, chemistry, and characterization of solid propellants.
• Support design, preparation, and optimization of binder matrices, oxidizers, metal fuels, and additives.
• Conduct lab-scale mixing, casting, and sample prep under safety protocols.
• Perform characterization testing to evaluate thermal stability, cure kinetics, and mechanical properties.
• Support transition from lab to pilot and production scale working with Process Engineering.
