Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering.
• Seven years of progressively responsible utilities experience, including supervisory experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may satisfy the requirements.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Job description

Lead the future of electric utility infrastructure as a Projects Engineering Manager! In this leadership role, you’ll guide a team of engineers and oversee the planning, design, construction, and project management of critical electric systems, electric generation, and thermal energy projects. You’ll work closely with operations, construction, contractors and other teams to ensure projects are safe, reliable, cost-effective, environmentally responsible and delivered on schedule. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Responsible for overseeing the Projects Engineering department, which includes engineering design, operational support, and project initiation and development for LES generation facilities and District Energy Corporation (DEC). Specific responsibilities include supervising staff, developing operating and capital budgets for areas of assignment, program and procedure development, assisting with tactical decision making and strategic planning for the division and the DEC, and development of departmental and divisional goals. Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

• Plans, organizes, and directs engineering activities related to the construction, modification and maintenance of electrical generating plants and thermal energy plants.
• Provides strategic leadership to staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, monitoring employee performance, ensuring staff members are trained and cross trained, resolving conflicts, and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
• Oversees development and expansion of local generation stations and thermal energy plants and the coordination of these activities as related to other divisions and departments.
• Develops and implements short- and long-term goals for area of assignment and assists with establishing strategic goals, long-term objectives and short-term priorities for the division and the DEC.
• Develops, monitors and analyzes department operational and capital budgets, expenses, and budget variances to identify trends, control costs, etc. in order to recommend needed resources, account for current and future regulatory requirements and risk mitigation. Makes decisions based on the limits of approved budgets and policies.
• Provides engineering and project management support for the operation, construction, environmental requirements, energy management, customer interface and expansion services provided to the DEC.
• Identifies needed services and manages the request for proposal process including soliciting and evaluating bids, determining vendor to be awarded, contract review, etc., and reviews the work of selected consultants and vendors to confirm the work meets requirements.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Understanding of applicable Federal, State, and/or Local Laws, rules, and regulations.
• Knowledge of electric utility operating methods.
• Understanding of safety principles and practices.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering, and
• Seven years of progressively responsible utilities experience in area of assignment, including supervisory experience, or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
• Advanced technical or engineering degree preferred
