Job summary

Olsson’s Rail Traffic team is hiring a Project Engineer to blend traffic engineering with railroad coordination and project delivery. You will interact with clients, coordinate projects, and own delivery activities with Class I railroads, state DOTs, and other consultants to improve safety and mobility.

You will help with traffic and preemption design, site visits, and plan preparation while collaborating with colleagues on complex projects. Travel to job sites is expected on occasion.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute and work well on a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 6+ years of traffic or transportation engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Synchro, or similar software.
  • Strong problem-solving and math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits and contribute to review and preparation of plans and/or studies.
  • Collaborate closely with team members on complex projects.

Job Description

Unlike traditional traffic engineering roles, Olsson's Rail Traffic team combines traffic engineering with railroad coordination and project delivery. Our engineers are encouraged to develop technical expertise and project management skills. You can expect direct client interaction, project coordination, and ownership of project delivery activities as you work with Class I railroads, state DOTs, local agencies, and other consultants on projects that improve safety and mobility nationwide. This is position is perfect for individuals seeking to expand their career beyond technical design work and develop skills in project delivery and client service.

Olsson’s Rail Traffic experts serve as a comprehensive resource for clients, offering a range of services including traffic signal preemption design, grade crossing safety design, traffic operations studies, and other related services. As a Project Engineer within the Rail Traffic team, you will play a pivotal role in assisting with traffic and preemption analysis and design. Your responsibilities will include conducting site visits, contributing to the review and preparation of plans and/or studies, and collaborating closely with team members on complex projects.

Project Engineers on the Rail Traffic team can expect occasional travel to job sites for observation and to attend client meetings.

Actual compensation will vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, geographic location, skills, education, and internal equity.

Colorado Pay Range

$115,000—$150,000 USD

Actual compensation will vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, geographic location, skills, education, and internal equity.

Minnesota Pay Range

$108,000—$140,000 USD
