Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a Project Surveyor to lead field layout, data collection, and machine control support for highway projects. You will serve as a technical link between design and execution, managing earthwork takeoffs and drone workflows on site.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years in heavy highway construction, strong Trimble and drone skills, and a commitment to safety and QA/QC alongside project engineers and owners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent field experience in Construction, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Construction Management.
• 3+ years' experience in heavy highway construction.
• RPLS, CST III/IV preferred; FAA Part 107 license or ability to obtain.
• Competence with project control software incl. Microsoft 365 and Bluebeam.
• Familiarity with Trimble Civil Construction field equipment and software.

Responsibilities

• Lead field layout, data collection, and machine control support for highway projects.
• Ensure safety standards in all surveying activities.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and inspectors.
• Interpret plans and digital models to layout grades, alignments, elevations, and offsets.
• Operate and maintain survey equipment and maintain field notes.
• Provide QA/QC support for machine control systems and perform earthwork takeoffs from field data.
• Document as-built data for payments and records; keep organized project files.
• Participate in project meetings and provide timely survey updates.
