Qualifications

Project Superintendent

Position Summary

Powers & Sons Construction is seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations for commercial construction projects in the Gary market. The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role serves as the primary field leader coordinating subcontractors, vendors, project staff, and client representatives throughout the construction lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong communication skills, extensive commercial construction experience, and a commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Field Operations
  • Lead all day-to-day field operations on assigned construction projects.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and site personnel to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Conduct regular site meetings with subcontractors and project stakeholders.
  • Monitor construction progress and proactively identify and resolve field issues.
  • Ensure all work is performed according to plans, specifications, company standards, and applicable codes.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, site documentation, and progress updates.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and project closeout activities.
Safety Management
  • Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety on every jobsite.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately.
  • Maintain required safety documentation and incident reporting.
Quality Control
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Verify workmanship meets project specifications and company standards.
  • Coordinate punch list completion and final inspections.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to resolve quality concerns.
Team Coordination & Communication
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Estimators, Engineers, and clients.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with owners, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Mentor assistant superintendents and field staff.
  • Communicate project expectations clearly and professionally.
Scheduling & Planning
  • Assist in developing short-term and long-term project schedules.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and site logistics.
  • Identify schedule risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure labor and equipment resources are utilized efficiently.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5–10 years of commercial construction superintendent experience.
  • Proven experience managing ground-up and/or renovation commercial construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to local project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with healthcare, education, industrial, municipal, or mixed-use projects.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.
  • Construction-related degree or equivalent field experience.
