Job summary

Callan Marine is seeking a Project Superintendent to oversee dredging and construction field work. You will report to the Project Manager and Operations Manager, supervising field engineers and dredge teams on multi-million dollar projects.

This role requires hands-on leadership, safety compliance, and effective client communication. Travel to remote project sites and prolonged field assignments are expected.

Qualifications

• Ability to supervise a construction project up to $10M.
• Knowledge of construction documents and the ability to read/analyze plans and specifications.
• Supervision of project staff.
• Strong analytical skills and decision-making ability.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to abide by and enforce company policies and procedures.
• Ability to travel and work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.

Responsibilities

• Attend pre bid meetings and assist with project estimating.
• Review and understand Plans/Specs; create mobilization and project plans/budgets.
• Mobilization, setup, work assignments/monitoring, teardown, and demobilization; supervise project and field engineers.
• Manage project crew and reporting (internal/external).
• Track and maximize production; monitor production analysis.
• Implement proper procurement procedures; control project costs.
• Perform other related duties; participate in safety and environmental programs.

Job description

Summary

This position is a field management role responsible for overseeing and supervising dredging and construction projects. It reports directly to the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Pre Project
  a. Attend pre bid meetings and assist with project estimating
• Project Preparation
  a. Review and understanding of Plans/Specs
  b. Create mobilization and project planning (work plans, work budgets, dredging strategy, schedules, etc.)
  c. Assist with personnel and equipment selection
  d. Meet with clients to discuss their goals, challenges, project risks, etc.
• Project execution
  a. Mobilization, setup, work assignments/monitoring, teardown, and demobilization
  b. Supervision of project and field engineers
  c. Direct dredge assignments, working with dredge superintendents
• Management of project crew and staff needs per project reporting
  a. Internal (daily logs, production, safety, etc.)
  b. External (client, safety, and environmental reporting)
• Production monitoring and analysis
  a. Track and monitor production
  b. Analyze and maximize production
• Financial Management
  a. Proper procurement procedures
  b. Cost control (fuel, labor, project consumables, etc.)
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The employee must have:

• Ability to supervise a construction project up to $10M.
• Knowledge of construction documents and the ability to read/analyze plans, and specifications
• Supervision of project staff

PREFERRED SKILLS PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD's), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, a Project Superintendent must also be capable of:

• Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
• Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
• Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
• Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
• Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.
• Climbing stairs or vertical ladders that are 6 feet tall or higher..
• Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
• Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
