Ray and Stephanie Lane Computational Biology Department (CBD) at Carnegie Mellon University

CBD is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to studying biological systems using computational methods. Faculty and researchers collaborate across fields such as computer science, biology, and statistics to tackle complex biological questions. Their work spans diverse areas including genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and computational neuroscience, driving innovation at the intersection of computation and life sciences.

Role Overview

CBD is seeking a Project Scientist to join the team. This role will be responsible for determining priorities for projects based on overall organizational goals. You will work directly with project members to ensure goals are achieved and frequently present research findings to current or potential sponsors at major national or international conferences.

Core Responsibilities
  • Propose and lead independent research goals within the scope of projects.
  • Contribute in developing and documenting research findings and collaborate in writing scientific papers.
  • Act as team leader, providing project management direction.
  • Lead research efforts within the main goals of the project and help coordinate interactions with other team members and universities.
  • Write documentation, technical papers, progress reports and participate in meetings/committees.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
