Job summary

Acadian Contractors, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Project Scheduler in Abbeville, LA to support senior schedulers by tracking and maintaining production schedules in a high-volume fabrication yard.

You will gather weekly updates, build schedules, and assist in discussing high-level project timelines with Division Managers. This role requires attention to detail and strong communication to support on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in project scheduling or project controls preferred.
  • Experience with construction, fabrication, or heavy civil projects preferred.
  • Proficiency with scheduling software such as MS Project/Primavera P6.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Bid & Award Schedule Building: create baseline schedules in Primavera P6 for new contracts and bids.
  • Resource & Cost Loading: assign and load labor, materials, and equipment into schedules to establish baselines.
  • Schedule Updates: input weekly progress from Project Managers into P6 and share updates with teams.
  • Variance Reporting: identify delays or bottlenecks and report them before client delivery impact.
  • Division Manager Alignment: coordinate with Division Managers to gather feedback and prevent bottlenecks.
  • Crane & Yard Asset Scheduling: align fabrication dates with crane availability for loadouts.

Job Summary

The Project Scheduler supports the Senior Scheduler by tracking, updating, and maintaining production schedules within a high-volume structural steel and piping fabrication yard. This entry-level role focuses on gathering weekly progress updates from Project Managers, building schedules in P6 and assisting the Senior Project Scheduler / Project Planner in discussing high level project schedules & back log with Division Managers. Responsibilities and Duties
  • Bid & Award Schedule Building: Building initial baseline schedules in Primavera P6 for both newly awarded contracts and upcoming project bids, ensuring realistic sequencing based on estimated fabrication hours.
  • Resource & Cost Loading: Assign and load labor, material, and critical equipment resources (such as weld crews, steel tonnage, and heavy yard cranes) into P6 schedules to establish clear budget baselines.
  • Schedule Updates: Input weekly production updates from the Project managers into Primavera P6. Provide weekly schedule updates back to Project Managers so they can distribute them to the fabrication team.
  • Variance Reporting: Identify and report early-stage lofting delays, shop delays, material shortages, or fabrication bottlenecks to the Project Manager before they impact client delivery dates.
  • Division Manager Alignment: Partner with structural, piping, and coating Division Managers to provide weekly schedule updates and gather shop-floor feedback to proactively prevent bottlenecks.
  • Crane & Yard Asset Scheduling: Coordinate with yard operations to align fabrication completion and final assembly dates with heavy crane availability, ensuring optimized rigging schedules and seamless loadouts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in project scheduling, project controls, construction planning, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting construction, fabrication, industrial, or heavy civil projects preferred.
  • Proficiency with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar scheduling platforms preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules while identifying schedule risks, delays, and opportunities for improvement. (CPM), resource planning, and project lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling principles, critical path methodology (CPM), resource planning, and project lifecycle management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project managers, operations, field personnel, and executive leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interpret project drawings, scopes of work, and project schedules to support planning and execution preferred.
