Job summary

Sheakley Workforce Staffing is seeking a Project Safety Coordinator (PSC) to join a major university construction project in Houston, TX. The role requires a seasoned safety professional to lead on-site safety across multiple trades and subs, ensuring compliance with OSHA and project-specific rules on a large-scale healthcare/education construction program.

The candidate will maintain a strong field presence, conduct risk assessments, review JHAs and permits, and drive corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 consecutive years serving as a PSC dedicated to commercial building construction projects with a GC
  • Current OSHA 500 Construction Trainer Certification
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification renewed within last 2 years
  • Must have maintained all required training and continuing education within previous 5 years
  • Strong commercial building construction safety experience
  • Experience overseeing multiple trades and subcontractors on large-scale projects
  • Documentation proving certifications and experience for client review prior to mobilization

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the PSC for the General Contractor
  • Maintain a highly visible field presence across the project
  • Provide safety oversight for multiple trades and subcontractors
  • Conduct routine site inspections, audits, field observations, and risk assessments
  • Monitor contractor compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety requirements
  • Review JHAs, permits, pre-task plans, and high-risk activities
  • Coordinate safety activities with project management and subcontractors
  • Support structural, concrete, MEP, and building construction activities
  • Monitor fall protection, scaffolding, aerial lifts, material handling, crane operations, and elevated work
  • Lead safety meetings, orientations, toolbox talks, and employee training
  • Identify unsafe conditions and drive corrective actions
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses
  • Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, training records, and compliance reports
  • Support subcontractor accountability and corrective action follow-up
  • Promote proactive safety culture on the project

Project Safety Coordinator (PSC)

Location: Houston, TX

Duration: 1 Year (Start: 8/17)

Type: 1099 Contractor

Compensation & Schedule

Pay Rate: $60/hr

Per Diem: None

Completion Bonus: $150/month

Pay Frequency: Weekly

Schedule: 5 Days/Week | 12-Hour Days

Saturday: 8-Hour Shift

Approximately 68 Hours Per Week

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum7 consecutive years serving as a Project Safety Coordinator (PSC) dedicated solely to commercial building construction projects with a General Contractor (GC)
  • CurrentOSHA 500 Construction Trainer Certification
  • CurrentFirst Aid/CPR/AED Certification completed within the last 2 years
  • Must have maintained all required training and continuing education within the previous 5 years
  • Strong commercial building construction safety experience
  • Experience overseeing multiple trades and subcontractors on large-scale construction projects
  • Must be able to provide documentation verifying all required certifications, qualifying experience, and continuing education for client review and approval prior to mobilization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hospital or healthcare construction experience
  • University or higher-education construction experience
  • Parking garage or structural concrete construction experience
  • Large-scale General Contractor project experience
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or additional BCSP credential
What You'll Be Doing
  • Serve as the Project Safety Coordinator for the General Contractor
  • Maintain a highly visible field presence across the project
