Job summary

Sheakley is seeking a Project Safety Coordinator (PSC) for a major university construction project in Houston, TX. The role provides dedicated safety leadership across multiple trades on a large-scale commercial build.

The position is a 1099 contractor for 1 year starting 8/17, with pay at $60/hr, a weekly cadence, and approximately 68 hours per week. Per diem is not provided, and scheduling includes 12-hour days and Saturday shifts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 consecutive years as PSC dedicated to commercial building construction with a GC
  • OSHA 500 Construction Trainer Certification is required
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification updated within the last 2 years
  • Must maintain all required training and continuing education in the past 5 years
  • Strong safety leadership experience overseeing multiple trades on large projects

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Project Safety Coordinator for the General Contractor
  • Maintain a highly visible field presence across the project
  • Provide safety oversight for multiple trades and subcontractors
  • Conduct routine site inspections, audits, risk assessments
  • Monitor contractor compliance with OSHA regulations and project safety requirements
  • Review JHAs, permits, pre-task plans, and high-risk activities
  • Coordinate safety activities with project management and craft personnel
  • Support structural, concrete, MEP, and building activities
  • Lead safety meetings, orientations, toolbox talks, and training
  • Identify unsafe conditions and drive corrective actions
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses
  • Maintain safety documentation, inspection and training records
  • Promote a proactive safety culture on the project

Location: Houston, TX

Duration: 1 Year (Start: 8/17)

Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay Rate: $60/hr
  • Per Diem: None
  • Completion Bonus: $150/month
  • Pay Frequency: Weekly
  • Schedule: 5 Days/Week | 12-Hour Days
  • Saturday: 8-Hour Shift
  • Approximately 68 Hours Per Week

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 consecutive years serving as a Project Safety Coordinator (PSC) dedicated solely to commercial building construction projects with a General Contractor (GC)
  • Current OSHA 500 Construction Trainer Certification
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification completed within the last 2 years
  • Must have maintained all required training and continuing education within the previous 5 years
  • Strong commercial building construction safety experience
  • Experience overseeing multiple trades and subcontractors on large-scale construction projects
  • Must be able to provide documentation verifying all required certifications, qualifying experience, and continuing education for client review and approval prior to mobilization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hospital or healthcare construction experience
  • University or higher-education construction experience
  • Parking garage or structural concrete construction experience
  • Large-scale General Contractor project experience
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or additional BCSP credential
What You'll Be Doing
  • Serve as the Project Safety Coordinator for the General Contractor
  • Maintain a highly visible field presence across the project
  • Provide safety oversight for multiple trades and subcontractors
  • Conduct routine site inspections, audits, field observations, and risk assessments
  • Monitor contractor compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety requirements
  • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), permits, pre-task plans, and high-risk work activities
  • Coordinate safety activities with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and craft personnel
  • Support structural, concrete, MEP, and building construction activities
  • Monitor fall protection, scaffolding, aerial lifts, material handling, crane operations, and elevated work
  • Lead safety meetings, orientations, toolbox talks, and employee training
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and drive timely corrective actions
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses
  • Maintain required safety documentation, inspection records, training records, and compliance reports
  • Support subcontractor accountability and corrective action follow-up
  • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the project
