Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. seeks a Project or Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its geoenvironmental and geotechnical practice in Chattanooga, TN; Knoxville, TN; and Charlotte, NC. A hybrid schedule may be available.

You will lead challenging projects including landfills, dams, mines, and brownfields, contributing to technical leadership and client management. Required: 7+ years in a consulting environment, a relevant civil/geotechnical degree, and strong writing/communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, water resources or geotechnical engineering (required).
  • Advanced degree (preferred) and professional licensure (e.g., P.E./P.G.) preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant consulting experience (8+ preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Civil design, landfill design, and site layout responsibilities.
  • Geotechnical analyses: slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, seepage.
  • Dam inspections, site characterization, instrumentation monitoring, and project management.
  • Preparation of reports, design calculations, drawings, specifications, and permits.
  • Fieldwork and travel to client facilities as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks.

Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Civil design, landfill design, and site layout;
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, and seepage;
  • Dam inspections, evaluation, and design;
  • Geotechnical and environmental site characterization;
  • Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems;
  • Project/task management and proposal preparation support;
  • Construction quality assurance oversight and management
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications; and
  • Fieldwork associated with design and construction services.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, water resources or geotechnical engineering or a related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in earth science, geotechnical engineering or a related field. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.). (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 7 years (8+ preferred) of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software (e.g., seepage and slope stability). (required)
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling tools. (preferred)
  • Design and construction experience (required);
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required.
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
