Job description

Project Manager – Transmission & Environmental Projects

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with expertise in high voltage electric transmission project life cycles to join our Environmental Consulting & Technology team. This role will lead the planning, development, and execution of electric transmission projects with a strong focus on developing successful project strategy, scheduling, leveraging multidisciplinary subject matter experts, project team collaboration, client focus, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape governing energy infrastructure and a track record of managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects throughout the life cycle, not just task or phase management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop project strategy, schedule predecessors and successors across all phases of high-voltage electric transmission projects.
  • Develop CapEx environmental budgets and cost estimates of project lifecycle for competitive-bid transmission, gen-ties, and regulated transmission.
  • Leverage the interdisciplinary subject matter experts including permit specialists, NEPA practice, regulatory licensing & certification experts, planners, public engagement, GIS experts, routing & siting team, project coordinators, project controllers, quality specialists, scientists and practitioners, and engineers in compiling the right project team, expertise and experience specific to each project.
  • Engage in the collective wisdom of clients, developers, engineers, construction contractors, operations, and maintenance experts as part of external resources and project teams.
  • Understand the big picture and how project development, construction, operations, and maintenance of transmission projects work.
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders throughout project life cycles.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and quality control plans.
  • Support utility clients by leveraging SMEs in route selection studies, environmental impact assessments, and public outreach.
  • Monitor regulatory developments relevant to electric transmission and integrate into project planning.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership in proposal development and client relationship management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or certification in project management, organizational management, process management, construction management, planning, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of project management experience in electric transmission and consulting.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the transmission project lifecycle including early-stage study area, corridors, routing, siting, constraints analysis, design, licensing & permitting, construction, compliance, and O&M.
  • Demonstrated experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and developing permitting and risk management strategies in the presence of schedule or cost pressures.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with 345, 500, 765kV, or HVDC projects.
  • Experience with short and long duration electric transmission projects as a solution and strategy minded consultant is required.
  • Experience communicating with organization executives, critical, and creative thinkers.
  • Familiarity with GIS and spatial data tools.
  • Experience with ESRI tools, geographical information systems (GIS), spatial and projection data management, quality assurance and control, process management, procedural management
  • Able to travel to project team meetings, clients, leadership, site visits, agency meetings, and public stakeholder engagements in support of projects and clients.
  • Knowledge of how to set up a project strategy to help clients avoid, minimize, and mitigate risks and impacts, in the presence of economic, stakeholder, engineering, environmental, political, rate payer, and other weighted quantitative and qualitative factors.
  • Able to communicate well throughout all levels of the organization.
