Qualifications

• Identify bottlenecks and propose automation opportunities to teams.
• Assist with testing new tools and workflows prior to rollout.
• Document SOPs, kickoff templates, and status reporting frameworks.

What You'll Do

The Project Manager plays a critical role in orchestrating the end-to-end execution, client alignment, and operational delivery of Avalara's voluntary compliance services engagements across multiple jurisdictions. As client transaction complexity, historical compliance exposure, and project volumes expand, this role ensures disciplined project governance, protects service delivery timelines, enforces project scope boundaries, and mitigates compliance risks.

This individual contributor operates as a Bar Raiser within Client Services – elevating project management rigor, proactively managing customer expectations, and leveraging artificial intelligence and automation tools to enhance operational speed, transparency, and service quality across the entire project lifecycle.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

• Lead end-to-end project planning, execution, monitoring, and closure for assigned multi-jurisdiction client portfolios, achieving 98–100% on-time milestone and service level agreement performance.


• Manage client relationships and project governance with high professionalism, establishing structured communication rhythms, clear agendas, and prompt follow-up documentation.


• Enforce project scope and customer accountability, ensuring clients provide requisite transactional data, taxability confirmations, and timely reviews without shifting data preparation burden onto project management.


• Maintain rigorous real-time system documentation in Salesforce, Certinia, and Google Drive, including weekly task status updates, risk logs, and audit-ready customer communication records.


• Coordinate cross-functionally with Data Consultants, Tax Analysts, State Tax Authorities, Customer Account Managers, and Sales to resolve escalations and ensure seamless execution.


• Leverage approved artificial intelligence and productivity applications for basic operational functions, including drafting structured client updates, synthesizing meeting action items, and summarizing project statuses.


• Identify recurring workflow bottlenecks and proactively recommend new tools, macros, or automation opportunities to technical and operations teams.


• Assist internal teams with user testing, validation, and feedback collection for newly developed or updated tools and workflows prior to full rollout.


• Continuously refine and document Standard Operating Procedures, project kickoff templates, and status reporting frameworks.

What You'll Need to be Successful

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Finance, Communications, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.


• 3+ years of professional experience in project management, client service delivery, or professional services coordination.


• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent client projects, establish project timelines, monitor deliverables, and tenaciously solve problems to keep projects moving forward.


• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience managing executive and cross-functional client relationships, facilitating meetings with structured agendas, and articulating project scope boundaries.


• Comfort using standard office applications (such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office) and existing enterprise artificial intelligence tools for basic daily functions (such as summarization, text drafting, and task organization).


• Willingness to provide constructive feedback, suggest process improvements, and assist with testing new operational tools and workflows.


• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills with acute attention to detail and recordkeeping.

Pay Range Details

The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may differ in other locations.

• Colorado $88,000-$140,000 [annually]


• Washington $88,000-$155,700 [annually]


• California $88,000-$170,300 [annually]


• NYC $97,100-$170,300 [annually]

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business consideration. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
