Job summary

Carotek, a SunSource company, provides process equipment solutions across several markets. This role estimates, designs, and manages the systems integration group projects from concept through build, coordinating with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities include reviewing RFQs with P&ID and PFDs, developing BOMs, researching costs, and delivering formal proposals. Occasional travel and full-time hours apply, with CAD drawings and FAT testing involved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from a four-year college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum one year project management or design experience in manufacturing or fabrication, CAD experience required.
  • Familiarity with Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs).

Responsibilities

  • Review client RFQs including P&ID, PFDs, process descriptions and equipment specs.
  • Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) per client specifications.
  • Research component cost and availability and coordinate with Purchasing.
  • Produce electrical drawings and CAD models; participate in design reviews.
  • Oversee project fabrication, FAT testing and installation coordination.

Summary

Estimates, designs and manages systems integration group projects and other custom industrial equipment projects from concept through build.

Expectations

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

Client Request for Quote (RFQ) Review and Response
  • Read client RFQs including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD's), process descriptions and equipment specifications.
  • Develop Bill of Material (BOM) i in accordance with client specifications.
  • Research and solicit component cost and availability.
  • Work with Electrical Systems staff to develop electrical scope of work.
  • Assess labor hours required for design and fabrication.
  • Develop total system cost and selling price and review with management.
  • Produce formal proposal to client including detailed descriptions of scope of work.
Project Management
  • Review and verify acceptance of client order in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.
  • Specify equipment through vendors in accordance with client specifications and submit for approval.
  • Produce Electrical Drawings with CAD modeling software.
  • Participate in design review meetings as required.
  • Submit drawings for approval to client and address changes upon request.
  • Submit Components for purchase to Purchasing Administrator.
  • Interact with production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues.
  • Manage fabrication of project through close coordination with client, Shop Manager, Quality Manager and other staff.
  • Manage FAT Testing in accordance with client specifications.
  • Interact with client regarding scope, schedule and requesting of information as needed.
  • Interact with vendors regarding component selection, pricing and delivery.
  • Develop Installation, Operation and Maintenance manuals for project.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, quality, sales, production and accounting personnel.
  • Advise Manager of work status, workload, problems and progress as related to work assignments.
Other
  • Communicates with co-workers, management, clients and others in an effective, professional and courteous manner.
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are followed, safe working conditions are maintained and safety procedures are followed.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does require influencing the actions of others.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Occasional travel is expected, which may require overnight stays and weekends. Ability to transport self to various facility sites as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid state driver’s license, acceptable driving record and proof of insurance that meets the minimum standards of the state.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from a four-year College or University; or equivalent experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience

Minimum one year project management or design experience, and one year in manufacturing or fabrication environment utilizing CAD modeling software. Understanding of materials, control panel design, process flow and Piping & Instrument Diagrams.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment where there is ambient room temperature and lighting as typically found in an office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, scanners, printers, calculators, etc. The noise level is usually moderate.

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing and shipping/receiving areas where, under certain areas, the noise level is high; may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, foot and/or hearing protection.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to sit; occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
