The City of Edmonton is seeking a skilled Project Manager to join our Safety Codes Permits & Inspections(SCPI) team. In this role, you will play a key part in the successful delivery of various projects, from planning and design to implementation, all aimed at improving operational services for our developing city. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring projects align with strategic goals, managing risks, and driving improvements that enhance service quality and efficiency. As SCPI Project Manager, you will be at the heart of transforming Edmonton’s safety code services. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of created and assigned projects, ensuring deliverables, objectives, and outcomes are met. This involves leading project teams, managing project scope, budget, and timelines, and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders. Your focus will be on driving improvements that result in enhanced consistency, quality, and efficiency for applicants and across city branches and departments. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, hands-on project management, and exceptional communication skills to navigate complex projects and diverse stakeholder interests.

What will you do?

  • Manage the planning, design, and/or delivery of SCPI related projects
  • Lead various sized project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment
  • Define project goals, objectives, and deliverables to meet the needs of Development Services and business partners
  • Manage project progress, budget, and schedules, and report on project health
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies
  • Develop and steward relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and implement communication and engagement plans
  • Ensure project activities adhere to City policies and project management methodologies
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes
  • Facilitate meetings and engagement sessions with stakeholders
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams, including consultants, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and support to project team members
Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • Completion of a four (4) year degree in a related field, such as Engineering, Architecture, Business or Project Management and a minimum of six (6) years directly related experience in project management for municipal planning, design, construction, or an area of specialization

OR

  • Completion of a two (2) year diploma in a related field, such as Engineering, Construction, Architecture, Project Management or Trade Certification and a minimum of eight (8) years directly related experience in project management for public administration, design, construction, or an area of specialization

Assets:

  • Course work/training/certification in project management, change management, facilitation/engagement, training/education, process improvement, service design and/or leadership training

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage scope, budget, timelines, and resources
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Change Management and Transition: This role will be responsible for assessing the readiness of the department to adapt to the change, and transition the organization to the required changes to ensure results are effective and functional. Adaptability and flexibility will be necessary to determine how to best facilitate the changes in the organizational systems that will be required in order to influence behaviour of those delivering the services
  • Complexity Management: The position requires exceptional fluency with the City’s processes in order to respond to a demanding set of tasks, projects and inquiries. Completing the work requires a high degree of analytical and decision-making skills, combined with customer service excellence. The position is located in a fast paced environment that requires superior interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills. To effectively complete the work, an ability to prioritize and re-prioritize work based on the potential impacts/effects on clients and citizens/stakeholders is a necessity

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent)
  • You will be required to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business. Where appropriate, you will be reimbursed for expenses related to that travel in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. You will be required to obtain business auto insurance.

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
