Project Manager – Pipelines & Facilities (KC)

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multiple engineering projects across Kansas City, focusing on pipeline and facilities. The role focuses on safety, client satisfaction, profitability, and business growth.

Description

This position provides direct project management for the Pipeline & Facilities Engineering team located in Kansas City. The goal is to manage multiple projects across multiple clients and grow the T&D business while upholding the company’s core values of safety, client satisfaction, commitment, integrity, and outstanding service.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, budget, and establish/achieve critical project objectives.
  • Ensure overall success of projects (safety, quality, profitability).
  • Manage engineering projects from concept to completion with understanding of siting, permitting, planning, bid services, procurement, constructability reviews, and material management.
  • Collaborate with the Project Team to confirm deliverables meet client satisfaction, coordinating with regional and branch offices.
  • Identify project opportunities early, facilitate go/no‑go decisions, determine fees, write proposals, prepare client presentations, and negotiate contracts.
  • Support development and maintenance of the business plan, lead proposal efforts for profitable growth.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and judgment in solving problems.
  • Handle internal project financials, staffing, legal coordination, and risk management.
  • Develop and implement project policies, procedures, and controls systems.
  • Report regularly on progress, cost, profit, schedule, design questions, risks, and issues requiring support.
  • Additional responsibilities may include account management, quality reviews, staff performance feedback, mentoring, recruitment, and retention activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related accredited program.
  • Minimum of 7 years of engineering design and project management experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration preferred.
  • Strong project management skills, strategic perspective, and ability to influence and manage change.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to travel; valid driver’s license; meet company motor vehicle policies.
  • Preferred: 10 years of experience, PMP certification or advanced degree.
